So you’ve decided to get married… Which probably means, there’ll be a wedding at some point, therefore you need to send out some invitations and stuff?

Well, don’t have a total meltdown thinking about what theme, what style and from where said invitations will come from – as our BoShow Festival vendor, Jacquie of Sugar & Spice Designs is here with some excellent tips on sorting your wedding stationery, smoothly.

See them below then meet the talent at our upcoming event in Henley-on-Thames.

So. Where do I start with ordering my wedding invitations and/or stationery?

I get so many brides coming to me asking for help with their stationery, as they have no idea where to start or what they need to order.

Firstly, think of your wedding invitations as a sneak preview of your wedding day for your guests. It’s often the first thing they see that gives them an idea of what style of wedding you’re having – and often an insight into the colours you’ve chosen too.

Looking at ideas online is a great place to start as you can work out what you do and don’t like. Also have a look at print finishes, such as letterpress and foil stamping.

If your wedding venue is hard to find or the post code doesn’t come up on sat navs you might want to include a map and/or directions when you send out your invitations.

If you’re having a wedding during the Summer holidays you might also like to send out save the dates as well as invitations, so your guests remember to keep that date free. (Don’t forget, lots of people tend to book their holidays a year in advance so it’s worth getting your date in first if you can).

Do I go customisable or bespoke with the design?

If you are on a tight budget or timescale, a customisable design would be a great option for you as turnaround times are often quick and you can choose a design that works with your wedding style.

If you are struggling to find an existing design that you like or you have a larger budget, a bespoke design might be a better option. A wedding stationer will work with you to create unique designs just for you to perfectly reflect the style of your wedding day.

What’s your top tip for ordering invitations?

One of the main things to think about when purchasing your invitations is how many you need to order. You may have 100+ guests coming to your wedding and it’s a common mistake to think you need the same number of invitations. You only need to order one invitation per address, not per person. This often halves the number you originally thought you needed!

That said, it’s always good to get a few extras though just in case any get lost in the post or you decide to invite a few more guests.
