Pulling a wedding playlist together is a fun yet tricky task, since you want to keep all your guests’ toes tapping and the dance floor full.
Here to help is Disco Shed co-founder and owner of Disco Wed, Paddy who knows a thing or two about a tune or two, having spun tracks at festivals like Glastonbury, Reading, Bestival, Leeds, Latitude, Radio One’s Big Weekender and more.
See below the tracks Paddy recommends for any wedding playlist, and then meet him at our BoShow Festival events in Henley and Milton Keynes this Summer, where he’ll be supplying the tunes too!
1. Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)’
I mean, is there a song more suited to a wedding than this? It’s lyrically and musically perfect, and who doesn’t love Stevie?
2. Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’
Tunes like this are a God send for any wedding DJ. It’s massively popular but totally brilliant too. So good in fact, I’m still not sick of it!
3. Michael Jackson’s ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’
Most of MJ’s disco output is great for weddings but I just happened to go for this classic, universally popular floor-filler. Tomorrow it’ll be something else…
4. Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher & Higher’
Happily, it’s possible to sing, smile and dance at the same time. Which is just as well as you’ll be doing all three when this joyous exclamation of love drops…
5. The Temptations’ ‘My Girl’
We don’t really bother with slow love songs at Disco Wed but this is a perfect choice for when you need to take things down a notch. Try not to sing along.
6. Pulp’s ‘Disco 2000’
We love a good indie disco at a wedding, and this belter from Jarvis and the gang never fails! Another sing-a-long classic!
7. Jet’s ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl?’
I don’t think I know any other songs by Jet but this one hit is a true wonder! Marvel as guests play air guitar, pogo and flirt. Yes, flirt.
8. Count Skylarkin & Harvey K Tel’s ‘Dub Of A Preacherman’
This is a Disco Shed production that samples a classic, and re-works it into a drum and bass monster that even your Great Aunt Jean will be skanking to! Plus, it has a brilliant video from Seb who designed our logos.
9. Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’
Instant classic. Who cares what a room without a roof is or that we’ve heard it a million times? “Because I’m Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy…”
10. Labi Siffre’s ‘It Must Be Love’
Perfect song to end the night. Ok, the Madness version is just as good and more popular, but I just fancied including this here – the original with all it’s charming, brilliant lovelieness.Any of these leave you itching for the dancefloor? Meet Paddy at BoShow Festival and talk to him about sorting out your wedding party playlist.
